Actor Brother De’Garryan Andrews brought his years of dedication and talent to the lead role in Palaver Tree Theater’s newest production, “Hour of the Wolf.” Written by local playwright Anthony Lamarr White, this compelling play tells the story of an ex-con ready to share his journey after a 30-year sentence, with the intriguing question looming, “What could possibly go wrong?”
The play ran from September 19-21 at the Crawfordville Theater and was an unforgettable experience.
For Brother Andrews, acting is more than a career; it’s a tribute to his late mother, whose pride in his performances remains a cherished memory. “There was always something about [my mother’s] reactions to my performances that made me beam with joy,” Andrews reflects. “Even though she is no longer with us, all of my performances are dedicated to her.”
Raised in Havana, Florida, Andrews found his first creative home at New Jerusalem M.B. Church. His passion for storytelling, especially narratives about Black experiences, inspired him to pursue acting professionally, leading him to train at Florida State University, The American Musical and Dramatic Academy, and Tasha Smith Actor’s Workshop.
Brother Andrews thrives in both stage and film, although he notes that each medium requires a unique approach. Film allows him to explore and adapt his performance, while theater demands precision and an appreciation for the live, shared experience with the audience—a momentary yet powerful connection.
